FreeWRL Modular Patchable Sandbox
We are creating two stations which will allow 8 MIDI to Voltage, and 8
Voltage to MIDI converters. These will allow easy interconnection of various
sensors and devices; for example, joysticks, buttons, lights.
Right now, we are assembling kits from PAIA Corporation and other companies to provide this
functionality, and to provide other manipulation modules. Each module fits within
a standard fractional rack, and has standardized power and I/O connections. Modules can be removed
and replaced easily. We are using the following modules:
- PAIA Midi "Faders" These allow 8 analogue voltages (range, 0-10v) to be converted into
8 distinct MIDI bus messages. We have adapted these modules to the Frac Rack configuration
format, and have brought +15v to the front panel to allow for easy device creation.
- Wiard JoysticksThese 2-axis joysticks come pre-assembled in Frac Rack format; each joystick
axis is capable of sourcing 0-10v, and an additional pushbutton is also available, toggling between
0 and 10v.
- PAIA Midi to CV Modules convert MIDI signals into 8 control voltages (0-10v).
- PAIA 9710 VCA Modules allow for controlling of external audio signals from
control voltages. It also has a low frequency oscillator that can be used to control other
modules, or can be fed back via one of the Midi fader channels to interact with FreeWRL.
