FreeWRL/FreeX3D OSX Install

Basic Install

Image Description
OSX Install Step-1 When you download the "Disc Image", it will get mounted by the Finder, and will put you into the directory on the FreeWRL "Disc Image".
OSX Install Step-2 Double click on the open box, with the title "FreeWRL-UniversalBinary". When this opens, you will get this "Welcome to the Installer" message. Click the "Continue" button if you wish to proceed.
OSX Install Step-3 I think that it is best to keep to the standard install location; so just click on the "Install" button here.
OSX Install Step-4 So FreeWRL installs some libraries, and some Application area files. In order to write the libraries, it needs your permission. Your account name will be here, you will need your account password to proceed.

If you want to see what files are written, please ask us; the distribution keeps changing so we are not going to put it on-line every time, but rest assured, if you want to know what is actually installed where, just ask us.

OSX Install Step-5 You know what? When you reach this screen, the software is installed.

Assigning Types

We are trying to ensure that the finder knows the Icon types and the "file" types to associate with FreeWRL. In the case where you have a file that is not automatically associated with FreeWRL, and you wish it to be, follow this.

Image Description
OSX Install Step-b-06 We have a file that we want to open with FreeWRL. It is the one on the top left...
OSX Install Step-b-07 Single click it; it will become highlighted. (highlit?)
OSX Install Step-b-08 Type the two keys "Command" and "I" at the same time (much as you would with the "Shift" key to get a capital letter. This screen will appear.
OSX Install Step-b-09 Click on the "Open With" pulldown menu, to get a list of applications.

See the FreeWRL directory? Open it.

OSX Install Step-b-10 FreeWRL is greyed out. It is because it is not an Apple product; click on the "Enable" and select "All Applications".
OSX Install Step-b-11 There it is. Click the FreeWRL icon to highlight it.
OSX Install Step-b-12 Click on the "Add".

In the information window (the long skinny one, above) you can select the "Change All..." button; you will most likely wish to do this.
